Available Assistance
There are many questions that come up in the mortgage process. How should I start shopping for a home loan? What does my credit score need to be? What are the hidden costs associated with a mortgage?  With its homebuyer education courses, the Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham aims to help borrowers answer these questions to help them become more confident and find the most affordable route to owning a home.

The Birmingham office has homebuyer education classes on the first Saturday of every month. They have also partnered with eHome America to provide a web-based homebuyer education program that combines online and in-person housing counseling, making it easier for potential homebuyers to learn at a time a place that is most convenient for them.

Buying a home can be a stressful time, and the more educated you are, the more confident you’ll be in your decisions. Homebuyer education courses are proven to be beneficial for first-time homebuyers, making it 67% more likely to stay current on the mortgages. Many borrowers who have completed such courses qualify for special financing programs or down payment assistance that will increase the affordability of homeownership.
