City of Huntsville Homeownership Programs

The Community Development Department of the City of Huntsville, Alabama offers different programs to assist first-time homebuyers to achieve their dreams of homeownership. In an effort to build more inclusive and stable neighborhoods, the City offers the Single Family HOME Ownership Program and the Down Payment Assistance Program

Available Assistance
The Single Family HOME Ownership Program provides eligible applicants with newly built 3 Bedroom/2 Bathhouses in the Terry Heights and Edmonton Heights Neighborhoods. All applicants must be first-time homebuyers and meet certain income qualifications (shown below)

The Down Payment Assistance Program provides qualifying first-time homebuyers up to $7,500 to help them offset the large, upfront costs that go with the mortgage process: down payments and closing costs. The funds are disbursed based on individual needs and all applicants must meet certain eligibility requirements and commit to living primarily in the property for a minimum of five years.

All applicants must fall within 80% of the Area Median Income

2-person household: $54,350
3-person household: $61,150
4-person household: $67,900
5-person household: $73,350
6-person household: $78,800
7-person household: $84,200
8-person household: $89,650

First-Time Homebuyer Programs in Alabama

In an effort to assist first-time homebuyers to take on the challenge of homeownership successfully, the City introduced the First Time Home Buyer Loan Program.

Alabama's Neighborhood Housing Services offers first-time homebuyers educational courses to help answer the questions that come with buying a home. The classes are offered online and at the office in Birmingham, for low- to moderate-income borrowers.

The MHA Home Ownership Program program provides first-time homebuyers safe and affordable opportunities to purchase their first home.

First-time homebuyers are offered assistance in buying a new home with the THA Homeownership Program.
