Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must be current MHA HCV Program participants and first-time homebuyers. First-time homebuyers are classified as people who have not owned a home in the previous three years. They must be employed on a full-time basis (not less than an average of 30 hours per week) for at least one year and the annual income of at least one household member must be equal to or greater than $14,500. The head of Household, elderly/disabled income must be equal to the minimum Federal Social Security or Supplemental Security Income of $9,000, annually. All Home Ownership Program applicants are also required to complete a HUD-approved, first-time homebuyer’s education course. It is also mandated that applicants cannot break their current lease to enroll in the program.

City of Opelika First Time Home Buyer Loan Program
In an effort to assist first-time homebuyers to take on the challenge of homeownership successfully, the City introduced the First Time Home Buyer Loan Program.
Neighborhood Housing Services
Alabama's Neighborhood Housing Services offers first-time homebuyers educational courses to help answer the questions that come with buying a home. The classes are offered online and at the office in Birmingham, for low- to moderate-income borrowers.

Tuscaloosa Housing Authority Homeownership Program
First-time homebuyers are offered assistance in buying a new home with the THA Homeownership Program.
City of Huntsville Homeownership Programs
Alabama's Community Development Department of the City of Huntsville offers first-time homebuyers two programs to help make their dreams of homeownership a reality, the Single Family HOME Ownership Program and the Down Payment Assistance Program
