Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Option

The Housing Authority of the City of Fort Lauderdale has introduced the Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Option. It allows eligible families the option to purchase a home rather than rent and offers them monthly assistance with homeownership expenses for up to 15 years, with a possible grant available for down payment assistance.
 
Eligibility Requirements
Any individual applying for the Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Option must qualify for a conventional, FHA, or VA mortgage loan and must be a first- time homebuyer. Their total annual income must be at least $15,000 (disabled and /or elderly are exempt from this requirement). Applicants must be employed full-time, continuously for at least one year and contribute a minimum of 3% of the purchase price toward the down payment. They must be in good standing with the Housing Authority and attend and complete homeownership counseling workshops. Homebuyers may choose a house for purchase anywhere in Broward County, and the property will be inspected by the HACFL and the buyer’s own inspector.
