First Time Homebuyers Education
Available Assistance
ACTION-Housing believes that homeownership education is the single most effective tool for achieving successful homeownership. Informed homebuyers are successful homeowners. With the First Time Homebuyers Education program, ACTION-Housing now offers two options for education, free personal counseling sessions, and a new online option.
The first time home buyers program assists potential homeowners in the home buying process through credit repair, education, and document review. The housing adviser will walk first-time homebuyers through the steps to buying a house, how to buy a house with bad credit, and how to pre-qualify for a mortgage. Borrowers who complete counseling are 40% more likely to avoid 60-day delinquency than equivalent borrowers who do not participate in counseling. A credit report is reviewed and an action plan is developed, credit repair issues are addressed, and a savings plan is developed. Once an applicant is ready to buy a house, the housing adviser acts as a neutral third party who can help review the mortgage documents in preparation for closing on a loan.
