Kansas Housing Assistance Program

Financial Assistance for Homebuyers in Kansas

Sedgwick and Shawnee Counties have co-sponsored the Kansas Housing Assistance Program, in order to help first-time homebuyers afford the upfront costs associated with a mortgage transaction.

Available Assistance
The Kansas Housing Assistance Program offers first-time homebuyers up to 4% cash assistance for down payments and closing costs, throughout the state. The program also offers a 30-year fixed-rate high loan-to-value mortgages for FHA (loan-to-value 96.5%), VA (loan-to-value 100%), Rural Development (loan-to-value 100%), and Conventional (loan-to-value 97%).

Eligibility Requirements
In order to qualify for the Kansas Housing Assistance Program borrowers must have a credit score of at least 660; those with credit scores between 640 and 659 have the option of selecting 3% borrower assistance, as well. Applicants must be first-time homebuyers unless the property is in a Federally Designated Targeted Area*. Borrowers must also have an annual household income that falls under the program's set income limits (shown below).

1-2 Person Household Maximum Income:

    (Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Linn & Miami)
  • Lawrence MSA - $74,700
    (Douglas)
  • All Other Areas - $66,700
3+ Person Household Maximum Income:

  • All Other Areas - $76,705
Property Guidelines
Property types eligible under the Kansas Housing Assistance Program include single-family detached homes, duplex (provided one unit owner-occupied), condominiums, and townhomes. All homes must fall under the maximum purchase price limits (shown below), determined by location.

  • Kansas City MSA - $265,609
    (Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Linn & Miami)
  • All Other Areas - $258,690
*More than 90% of the State falls in a non-target area.
