Capitol Federal Closing Costs Assistance Program

Financial Assistance for Homebuyers in Kansas

In an effort to help individuals achieve their dreams of home ownership, the Community Housing of Wyandotte County (CHWC) created the Capitol Federal Closing Cost Assistance Program. Many first-time homebuyers need help paying the initial, upfront costs in a mortgage transaction, and this program helps cover those closing costs.

Available Assistance
The Capitol Federal Closing Costs Assistance Program is available for applicants buying a home located in a Low Income Census Tract. The program provides homebuyers with a grant of up to $1,500, which can be used to cover the closing costs associated with a home purchase.

Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible for the Capitol Federal Closing Costs Assistance Program, all applicants must meet certain requirements. Their annual household income must fall under 80 percent of the area median income (limits shown below). The property being purchased must be located in a “Low” Income Census Tract; NSP areas might apply as well. CHWC is prioritizing applications from households with one or more residents who are elderly (55 years or older), mentally or physically disabled persons, persons recovering from physical, alcohol or drug abuse, or persons with HIV/AIDS.

Income Limits
Household income is defined as all income received by household members (18 years or older) who will be living in the home, even if they are not on the mortgage.

1 person household: $38,350
2 person household: $43,850
3 person household: $49,300
4 person household: $54,800
5 person household: $59,200
6 person household: $63,550
7 person household: $67,950

(Note: These figures were accurate at the time of publication and may no longer be current - visit the program website for updated information.)

*Seller-funded down payment programs were eliminated in the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, but States and Local government agencies are still permitted to help borrowers finance their homes with second mortgages and grants. These agencies set different requirements that a borrower needs to meet in order to qualify for the grant programs, such as property location, and purchase price and income limits.
